Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Unnamed

Regenerative Medicine is an emerging therapy that harnesses the body’s natural healing processes to relieve pain, restore natural function and promote accelerated recovery. At Cahaba Pain and Spine Care, we are pleased to offer Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy which has been utilized by professional athletes and others for more than a decade to get back on the field or on the court.

What is PRP Therapy?

PRP Therapy is a novel medical treatment that concentrates the healing powers of your own blood to accelerate recovery in injured tissue. The procedure involves drawing a small sample of your blood, which is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets and plasma from other blood components. This concentrated platelet-rich plasma is then injected directly using sterile technique into the affected area, delivering a high concentration of growth factors that stimulate natural healing processes, including cell repair and tissue regeneration.

Potential Benefits of PRP Therapy

PRP Therapy has been shown to offer significant benefits for a wide range of conditions, with potential advantages including:

• Accelerated Healing: By enhancing the body's natural healing mechanisms, PRP can speed up recovery from injuries and surgery.

• Pain Reduction: Patients often experience a notable decrease in pain, as PRP works to repair damaged tissue and reduce inflammation.

• Improved Functionality: By promoting tissue regeneration, PRP therapy can help restore functionality to injured areas, improving quality of life.

• Minimally Invasive: As a non-surgical treatment, PRP involves minimal downtime, allowing patients to return to their daily activities more quickly than with surgical alternatives.

• Safety: Since PRP uses the patient's own blood, the risk of allergic reactions or infections is significantly reduced.

Conditions Treated with PRP

PRP Therapy is used to treat a variety of conditions, including but not limited to:

• Osteoarthritis

• Tendonitis

• Ligament sprains

Our practice charges $1,200 for the PRP treatment, reflecting our commitment to providing high-quality care with state-of-the-art technology. Some insurances, including Tricare, Veterans Affairs, some worker’s compensation plans, and some self-insured private commercial plans, may cover PRP therapy for some injuries.
