Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)

X-ray of spinal cord stimulation procedure

Pain after spine surgery is common. Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) is a treatment effective for pain after spine surgery (when there are no more surgical options) that can ease pain in the spine and in the affected extremities. In this case, the Cahaba Pain and Spine Care patient has back and leg pain after an uncomplicated, L5-S1 fusion. The SCS leads are placed via an epidural needle under light IV sedation. Leads are demonstrated in the epidural space spanning the T7-T9 vertebral levels to relieve low back and leg pain. If the relief from this 6-7 day trial is significant, the patient can elect to have a permanent system implanted.
