Scott Rooney, M.D.
Dr. Scott Rooney is committed to providing compassionate care and collaborating with his
fellow physicians to effectively deliver a comprehensive treatment plan to help his patients find
relief from their pain for a better quality of life. Board certified by the American Board of
Anesthesiology and specializing in Pain Medicine, he has extensive experience in interventional
pain management to treat a wide array of chronic pain conditions.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Rooney attended Louisiana State University where he
graduated with honors. There he earned his Bachelor’s in Biology as well minor degrees in
Chemistry, Psychology, and Business Administration. He received early acceptance to the
Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans and chose to receive his medical
training at this institution. While in medical school, Dr. Rooney was elected by his colleagues to
the student government association to serve multiple terms and was requested by the medical
faculty to join the medical school admissions committee.
Dr. Rooney completed a medical internship and anesthesiology residency at Ochsner Clinic
Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. During his time at Ochsner, he served as chief resident,
was elected as President of the Residents and Fellows Association of Ochsner Hospital, and was
requested by the hospital administration to serve as the resident representative on the Board of
Graduate Medical Education. Upon completion of his residency, he was awarded the “Alton
Ochsner Resident Leader of the Year Award.” This award is presented to the resident or fellow
who demonstrates a commitment to excellence, compassionate and ethical patient care,
mentorship, and professionalism, and is the highest award presented to a graduating house
staff.
Dr. Rooney sought to continue his medical training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham,
where he completed his Interventional Pain Management Fellowship. There, he developed his
expertise in multimodal medication management as well as diagnostic and therapeutic
minimally invasive advanced fluoroscopy- and ultrasound-guided procedures for the treatment
of tendons, ligaments, nerves, joints, and muscles.
In his practice of pain medicine, Dr. Rooney believes in an evidence-based, multidisciplinary
approach to tailor treatment plans to patients’ specific needs. He aims to restore function to his
patients so that they may reach their goals to decrease pain, improve mobility, and increase
their overall quality of life.
Outside of the office, Dr. Rooney enjoys exploring the beautiful outdoors afforded to Alabama,
as well as cooking Cajun cuisine, fishing, travelling, and spending time with his family and two
Border Collies. He joined Cahaba Pain and Spine Care in 2022 and is enthusiastic to offer timely
and high quality patient care to the people of Alabama.
